Preview: 2012 Audi R8 Facelift

Audi will release a refreshed version of the R8 in 2012 before the new generation arrives. So far, we’ve seen how the car’s front bumper will look but a rendering of the facelifted version has been created by German publication auto motor und sport. It shows a concept version of the front end since these lights don’t appear functional at all.

The major revisions include a new grille that has edges at the four corners, similar to the facelifted A5. The production version will have lights that are nearer to the grille than before.

The R8 is powered by a beefier variant of the V8 and V10. There are reports that Audi is considering configurations like a T5 and rear wheel drive but these changes aren’t expected for the 2012 version. However, a dual-clutch gearbox will replace the R-Tronic six-speed. The 2012 R8 may debut in Frankfurt.[via : 4wheelsnews]
